HDR Images

Last weekend I tried to take some photos and turn them into an HDR image (High Dynamic Range). Basically, I took three pictures of the same object/setting, each at different exposures. Then, in photoshop, I combined them into one picture. It didn't turn out very well, but this was my first experiment with HDR. I've also heard there are better programs to use than photoshop specifically for HDR work, but I need to look into those. Anyways, thought I'd throw up one of the pictures. The picture is of some boats in the Yokohama area.

Here is the original picture:

Anyways, we'll see what happens next time. Hopefully I'll have some artwork to put up soon. I'm working on a Flash intro for my website. I'll try to post pieces of it as I make it.

Hey Man,
I don't know a whole lot about HDR images either...I know it's a technique you can assimilate in a 3D programs such as Maya as well. I'd be interested to see more samples.

Have you seen this thing where people fake miniature environments in photoshop cs/cs2. They use a lens blur plug-in...it's interesting...makes everything look like it's from Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. Those shots of the miniature houses, etc.

I think you should try to find a more static environment. The motion of the waves might be adding too much blur.

I never knew you were interested in this kinda stuff. You should make some hyperrealistic landscapes... you could be a cinematic matte artist!
